DC Extended Universe and it's love for obscure characters.

I thought I was done with my ".... and it's love for obscured characters" series last year but I have notice that DC Extended Universe is now have a habit of having obscured characters as main villains.

DC Extended Universe(DCEU) is list of films that connected to one another. Basically, they are trying to copy off of Marvel's Cinematic Universe(MCU). The MCU had many copycats that failed, Amazing Spider-Man series tried to create a universe but failed by putting to many storylines in it's 2nd movie. DC tried to make Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern the start of a cinematic universe but they abandon it.

Enough talking about other universes, I should discuss the DCEU and it's bizarre usage of obscured characters as the main villains.

The 1st movie that came out was Man of Steel. The main villain was General Zod.

So far, DCEU didn't have obscured villains yet. He was in alot Superman media and this Kryptonian criminal was also the main villain in the 2nd Christopher Reeves movie.

The next movie was Batman v Superman. (v? Why not vs?) The main villain is the calm collective evil multi-millionaire businessman, Lex Luthor.
*Scratches head* Wait...This can't be Lex Luthor. He's too loony and wacky to be this cool intelligent evil business dude. Are you sure this isn't suppose to be the Riddler or Joker without the make up? Well anyways, he is suppose to be Lex Luthor. Some people say that he's not the real Lex Luthor and that he is really Lex Luthor Jr.

Anyways, Lex Luthor is Superman's arch-nemesis. So far he is not obscured.

The climax at Batman v Superman did give us another villain.
This is Doomsday. This behemoth is best known for killing Superman in the early 90s(More like putting him into a coma and the Man of Steel slowly heal in his sleep while the rest of the world believe Sups was dead) The Death of Superman story sent shockwaves around the world at the time and I'm sure most people read the story saw the one who killed him.

I know this article suppose to be about obscure villains but at the time, the DCEU was using villains you at least suspect. Even if the viewers were surprised Doomsday appeared, he wasn't some obscured villain. Shortly after this, this is when things get weird on the choice of villains.

A deleted scene on showed after the movie was put in theaters. He was behind the scenes during the events of Batman v Superman. I get this obscured guy later in the article when I discuss Justice League.

The main villain for Suicide Squad is not Joker.
He was feature in alot trailers and everyone was wondering how this popular singer/oscar-winning actor can hold up to Heath Ledger. When the movie came out, he was barley in it. He was mostly showed in Harley Quinn's flashbacks. In present day, he briefly helped Harley escape from the Suicide Squad but she quickly return to the group once Joker's helicopter exploded right after he rescued her.(He survived)

Jared Leto has complain that alot of his material was cut from the movie. A extended version was release on DVD but he still wasn't anywhere near being the main focus of the movie.

The actual main villain for Suicide Squad is the Enchantress. A woman possessed by an ancient spirit. She is lesser known character. She had several appearances with the squad a few times over the years in the comics.

The other main villain of Suicide Squad is Enchantress' bro, Incubus. Incubus is obscurer than obscured. In the total of every DC comic ever publish, Incubus made 6 appearances ever. Extremely weird choice to make one of the main villains of the movie.

Edit: Now I actually seen Wonder Woman. The villain is Ares. The god of war as the villain is not a bad choice and kinda what you least suspect. When I wrote this article originally, the Justice League villain was foreshadowed and I knew who it was for a while long before I actually watched Wonder Woman.

Now on to Justice League. There is a deleted scene on Batman v Superman. It showed Lex communicating with a mysterious being.

Well this guy is going the main villain of the upcoming Justice League movie. Who is he? It's Steppenwolf.

Like you guys, I said, "Huh!? What!? Who!?"

From what I looked up, he is one of Darkseid's generals. He's also his uncle.

I should fill in for the people who are unaware of Darkseid.
Darkseid is the lord of the planet of Apokoplis. A world is basically hell. This dude is a big deal for our heroes. When the League sees him, they're all like "Aww Crap!!" Superman stops holding back and go all out to try to take this guy down. Batman at one point had to break his one rule and actually use a gun to kill this man. That explains how big a serious threat this guy is. Think the DC version of Thanos.

However, Steppenwolf is just an odd choice for being a main villain of a movie. I don't remember every single person that work under Darkseid. I kinda remember a few like Granny Goodness or Kalibak but even they replace Steppenwolf, I still can't see them as the main villain for a movie.

I guess they want to save Darkseid for a later movie. I rather they go straight to Darkseid or some other big threat.

We may get to more well known villains in the future but so far, we been getting some lesser known villains recently.

This line from Lego Batman sums up what viewers are thinking when they saw these films and these unknown villains.

"Are you making some of them up"
"Nope, they're all real. Properly worth the Google."
-Airplane pilot and Joker after hearing Joker has an army of criminals, including the weird bizarre forgotten obscured ones.
