1a.Intro
To celebrate the premiere of the final chapter of the War For Cybertron trilogy on Netflix, I be discussing something Transformers related, so it be about RobotMasters. It's basically the Transformers version of Super Smash Bros or Infinity War that was forgotten about in some small corner in the history of Transformers.

I be mostly talking about the two animated shorts that was based on Robot Masters and a little bit from their mangas.

Before I discuss Robot Masters, I should mention Transformers Universe. If you want to skip about reading about this and read about the actual Robot Masters, go ahead and scroll down past the next three paragraphs.

1b.Transformers Universe
The Transformers franchise had a yearly convention called Botcon that was run by 3H Productions in the early 2000s. They released comics during their events and exclusive toys. One story they have is Transformers Universe. The story is the cosmic beings, Primus and Unicron plucked various Transformers across the multiverse in an epic battle. Basically Marvel's Secret Wars or Final Fantasy Dissidia.

Alot toys based on this storyline was released in retail stores. The toys weren't brand new, they were simply repainted toys from the past five at the time. Like the same Beast Wars Silverbolt toy, but purple, or the same Optimus Primal toy, but brown fur instead.

Universe came to abrupt end 2005 due to 3H mishandling of one of their conventions and delays of their toys, and the licensee to work with Transformers conventions and exclusive toys were sent to Fun Publications. It was sort of wrapped up by dimension hoppers referring to the ending of the Universe War in past sense.

1c.Discussing RobotMasters
Anyways, enough of Universe, time to talk about Robot Masters. The company in Japan known as TakaraTomy wanted to have their answer to the big crossoverly nature of Universe and the result is RobotMasters.

RobotMasters had toyline with unlike American crossover, it was half repaints, and half new molds. The franchise also has several manga and two animated CGI shorts that were packed with their toys.

They never say directly the main plot is within the CGI shorts but according to other material. Everyone is fighting over a new type of special fuel called, Dark Energon, Ore-13, Nucleon, Solitarium. Various Transformers from different time periods will past through a rift in time strangely called the Blastizone.

There are two ways to watch this on youtube, the fandub version or the unsubtitled Japanese version.

2. Episode 1
The episode starts with Autobot Commander Star Saber and Starscream battling in the sky. For those who don't know, Japan didn't aired Generation 1's 4th season and had their alternate 4th season and it had several spinoffs. Star Saber was the Autobot leader long after Optimus and Rodimus from Transformers: Victory.

Dude, I can easily see what makes the head in robot mode.

Starscream has this flashy anime transformation scene.

The animation kinda reminds me of the CGI style from the mid 2000s show, Transformers:Cybertron.

As the two sky warriors clash, the robo lion Victory Leo joins in the fight and combine with his buddy Star Saber to formed Victory Saber.

Starscream clashes against the sword-wielding Autobot with lightning effects. I mean gee, this really reminds me of those over-the-top anime battles from TF:Cybertron.

A Decepicon who was created from this toyline who is not worth remembering called Wingstun showed up and assist the air commander

Screamer later fights in the ground midway through transformation, coping off of Gerwalk mode from Marcross.

Optimus Prime came in to even the battlefield.

Wait, when in the cartoon can Optimus pull out his robo arm to shoot Cons in vehicle mode?

And he has a flashy anime transformation scene.

In the Japanese version, he calls himself during the flashly scene, "G1 Convoy". In Japan, he's never Optimus, just Convoy, but what puzzles me is the G1 part. Why would you call himself G1 in-universe? 1st generation what? I mean heck, he's not the 1st Matrix bearer in the G1 cartoon timeline.

The Autobot leader comes face to face with Beast Wars Megatron.

Prime: "Have we met?"
Megs: "Don't you remember? I tried to blow your head off back when you were sleeping your 4 million long nap."

Also how are they the same size? After the Great War from the G1 cartoon, everyone on Cybertron went through an upgrade where they're now slightly taller than humans.(For fuel efficiency)

That's literally the same characters in the previous pic.
I mean heck, the season 2 finale of Beast Wars had the time traveling cast finding the sleeping Autobots and Decepticons and you can tell they're giants in comparison.

Anyways, Optimus is worried this crossover event is messing the fabric of time but BW Megs said he doesn't care and he wants the Solitarium.

More originally created characters, Smokesniper and Gigant Bomb attack the Autobot Leader but Victory Saber keeps them occupied.

G1 Optimus and BW Megatron duke it out till Optimus Primal join in the fight.
Dude, I can totally see your exposed robot parts.

I get the original toy can't make him a completely organic hairy gorilla from head to toe but your CGI model didn't have to follow the toy to the letter. I mean the original Beast Wars show took some liberties of the characters design. Speaking about CGI models....
What the scrap man. Your organic fur looks completely fake. I can forgive the BW show from the 90s for being one of the earliest CGI shows at that time but gosh, this is leagues more fake looking.

Anyways, Primal tells Prime to combine their power to defeat Megatron. The two fly in the air and spin together in a circle, creating a giant red energy tornadoand blasted Megatron to the sunset.

No, your eyes are not messing with you, the above paragraph is 100% the truth.

Seriously, since when did both the Optimuses have super anime tornado powers? I like to see them use that power in any of the shows, comics, games.

"You think you can destroy me, you think you could destroy Trypticon?"
Optimus uses super anime tornado and defeats him in one hit.

The episode ends with the battle is over as the three good guy leaders shake hands and plan to continue their battle.

Meanwhile, a shadowy Lio Convoy from those Japan-only spinoffs watches our three heroes on a mountain top.

3. Episode 2
Episode 2 starts with BW Megs at a random city, scorching the place with his flame breath, an ability he never shown before from his T-Rex form and possibly never referenced ever again.

Your not Godzilla

Prime and Victory Leo shown up to save the day.
Look! It's a flying truck!

Optimus took on Megs while Leo took on Screamer and Wingstun. As the truck took on the dino, a mysterious lion fires his blasters on the Predacon.

Starscream and Wingstun were blasted by Optimus Primal who is on top of the skyscraper.

Your not King Kong.
Oh and when did you had the ability to pull out your guns in Beast Mode?

A mysterious tank joined in and fired on Screamer. It reveal itself as Reverse Convoy.

Reverse Convoy? That's like Reverse Optimus or something. That be saying your like the Anti-Optimus or something.
Unlike the other Optimuses or Convoys, Reverse Convoy is originally made for this toyline....Or is he?

Starscream was now flying towards Optimus and the ape smack him around while hanging on the skyscraper's spire.
Ok, your better than King King because he would of died at this point fighting the planes.

Beast Megatron attacks Prime with Smokesniper and Gigant Bomb but Star Saber came saving Optimus and soon, Lio Convoy jumps out of the shadows and reveal himself to help our heroes.

But then, Reverse Convoy suddenly shots at the forces of goods.
My friend for one minute, why you betray me!?

It's revealed his real name isn't Reverse Convoy, but Rebirth Megatron.

Dun Dun Duuun!!!

According to the backstory, G1 Megatron was missing for some unknown reasons and Starscream and BW Megatron took over the Decepticons. It was retcon in 2015 in a Q&A session on an official Facebook post that Reverse Convoy was a real dude who was station on a different planet in the distant future but his body got possessed by a time traveling G1 Megs.

BW Megs and G1 Megs combine their powers to create their own super anime tornado attack. Prime and Primal in return to do the same.
Lio Convoy did a dropkick within the tornados called, "Lio Typhoon Arrow". This gave a boost of energy in the red torando and sent the baddies far away.

The forces of good go out separate ways to stop the forces of evil.

3. Manga and other stuff
There has been several manga(Japanese comics) related to the RobotMasters franchise.

There's not much to say about them, alot them basically retells what we see. There were several more originally made characters for this franchise that's not worth remembering. There is however a few things worth mentioning.

One is the Autobot from RID2001 called Tow-Line has bump his head, forgot who was, and switch sides.
No Parking means no parking...

Or I going to kill you for parking in the fire lane.

Yeah, Japan took an innocent comical bot from RID2001 and made him go traitor. Sad really. Also Japan retcon the Japanese version of RID01 into being set in the G1 universe, yeah it's complicated and weird.

One story has the very same Sideways from Transformers Armada appearing. Thankfully, his appearance here isn't headache inducing like sprouting a new clashing origin story or claiming he's the same dude you saw for five seconds in Revenge of the Fallen.

Edit from 2023: New information came to light. This isn't the same exact Sideways from Armada/Cybertron. There's been misinformation that been spread around. This crossover happened due to time travel alone, it never had visitors from other universes. Also people made claims of what they read up of this obscure untranslated Japanese material and saying that nearly every version of Sideways are the same dude and he hops through dimensions. Alot people believe this story and took it as canon for nearly two decades. Also later stories like me Allspark Almanac and Ask Vector Prime did had a dimensional hopping Sideways and his inspiration all came from these lies.

Anyways, there were a few other stories like Starscream butting heads with BW Megs for leadership, G1 Megs returning, or their big final battle before everyone went back before their timestream.
Also, this final battle happen in early 2005, meaning after this story, the events of Transformers the movie happen where all your beloved childhood favorites were killed.

What I think of of this crossover, well it's ok. The animated shorts didn't display much of their personalities and what we mostly saw was their weird use of their bizarre anime powers that was never displayed elsewhere. The fandub somewhat tried to insert their iconic personalities. You may not care about the characters from the Japanese spinoffs and that was a good chunk of the cast, that and originally made characters who we don't care for or never seen again.
