Let's Play Mario: Call of Cthulhu

To celebrate Halloween, I figure I look up a Horror-theme rom hack and found this. It's based on Lovecraft stories that was written in the 1920s. It's only 6 levels but it is a little challenging.

The game starts with Mario getting messages to save a woman while this creepy cult is planning to awaken Cthulhu.
No kidding. I mean you lose your life in level 5, you go all the way back to the beginning of level 1. Also it is very challenging, not kaizo level thankfully.

Level 1 starts at a poisonous swamp.

As you notice, alot of the enemies and items been greatly redesigned to fit the more horror aspect of the hack.

Instead of Yoshi coins, you get these cats. These cats are a must get. If you don't collect all 25 of them, you get the bad ending. Unfortunately, I found out halfway playing that I had a version of the hack that has a bug and only has one of them missing.

Be prepare to alot P switch puzzles, thankfully this is the most simple of this hack.

Next, Mario goes through underground. There is this rarely seen car enemy. Don't know why it's a car.

Back above ground and encounter a rare 1-up block.

Got to collect dem cats(If I knew at the time I was playing a glitch version)

Afterwards, you go on a crazy platform mess. This is like Special World hard.

Near the end, collecting the last cat of the level briefly causes the background to change. Strangely, it never did that when you collect the other cats.

Now to level 2.

The 2nd level is a place with a weird black sun and alot pillars with the Cthulhu heads.

I thought that little head was part of the background but it's an actual enemy. I think it's a reskinned version of the jumping Bowser statues, meaning you really can't kill it.

Later on, you have to push the green block to help climb.
One part is pushing the block into the green water(acid?) I died a few times but it seems you simply just walk across.

Next you go in an underground area and oh boy.

It's weird to describe but the background and platforms move with you.

You got to be careful on how you run or how far you plan to jump because the background didn't move close enough to your position.

Also, you have to hurry due to being on a timer from the P-switches.

And your on above ground for a second before the level ends.

Now for level 3
You run across the ruins as you see a crashed boat in the background.

The last level have the background move with you, this level half you fall to the ground, only to fall from the sky.
That pit lead to the open ceiling.

The Thwomps been replaced with a creepy eyeball block and those can either fall up or down, so be careful.

There's one section that has a double P-Switch trial, so hurry up.

Then passing that double P-switches, you be falling for a few minutes till you reach land.

Yep, they either go up or down.

You get this werid cryptic message I couldn't figure out, well anyways you go down this pit and....

Somehow you die as you teleport right in front of the Zombie Koopa.

I tried to replay the section and tried to find another path but nothing, but here's the thing, your suppose to die.

Also if you notice, I had plenty of lives, so no way to get a game over for losing one life.

If you jump several times, Mario appears and hits hidden blocks. Basically, Mario is escaping the depths of Hell like how Kratos fought his way out of the underworld right after getting killed in the 2nd game. This leads to level 4.
